"Renate and Friedel Winter, Hanau. This year, we spent our annual holiday (4 weeks) at the Thai Ayodhya Hotel in Lamai on the island of Koh Samui. As we had already visited this hotel three years ago and found it extremely nice, we thought it would be the same again. The disappointment was tremendous. We arrived (having paid 2838 Euros, which is the equivalent of 112.200 Baht for 28 nights at a deluxe-villa located at the front row at the beach). The flight had cost approx. 2000 Euros which is a total of 4838 Euros. A little more than 3 three years had pased; however, in the expectation of encountering the same standard again we found the costs acceptable. The first impression of our “villa” crushed all our expectations. The guard rail had come loose; had one used it for support (which is the usual function of guard rails) as one tends to do, especially when arriving with heavy suitcases, this would have lead, with some certainty to a fall and possibly a premature end of our just beginning holiday. After having survived the adventure of the front steps, we entered the bungalow. The first impression was: Grime, dirt, filth to an extent which was nothing short of incredible considering the price category. It was simply disgusting. In our bathroom hundreds of ants were having a good time on top of the toilet bowl and the sink. We felt as if we were intruding into an ant family party (unfortunately, it turned out that the ants found something to celebrate every day).In the bedroom the first opening of the wardrobe door turned out to also be the final one – the door simply fell off. On the positive note, this spared us from having to ever open that door again during our entire holiday and at the same time ensured a proper airing of our clothes. The bed sheets were full of holes; we assume that this had the purpose of lowering the room temperature by ensuring ventilation from below. We would have been happy to dispense with this especially as it was completely unnecessary; the refrigerator was so frosted that there was hardly any space left for the things one usually stores in a fridge. There was probably enough ice to ensure the cooling of the bungalow during the entire four weeks of our holiday. At first sight the floor in the living room looked as if it had not been mopped for years. We immediately corrected this impression, however, when we approached a room corner. The floor had been mopped or rather swept; however, supposedly for reasons of economy, this had been done without the use of a dustpan since the dirt accumulated in the room corners. On our first day I lost a paper clip; on the day of our departure I found it in one of the room corners! Three cheers for the honest cleaner! The prettily decorated bungalows showed clear signs of decay; e.g. a piece of the carved wood decoration had broken off the roof and was lying in the bushes in front of the villa (between beverage cans, disposable bottles and other garbage. Not even the fact that we placed the object on the stairs where it was visible to everyone resulted in anyone’s feeling obliged to reattach the decoration to its proper place.)An even remotely correct level of service was only obtainable through the means of generous tips (we have nothing against tips in general and are never tight-fisted as long as they are given voluntarily and not seen as the basis for the staff doing their work). Against payment of 50 Baht here and 100 Baht there the worst deficiencies were amended (it is worth remembering that we had paid 2800 Euros for our stay in this hotel!)The view from our bedroom no longer showed the sea, as it used to be the case, but garbage, building blocks and untended shrubbery. The rear part of our bungalow bordered onto the kitchen of the neighbouring hotel, which, due to the smell, meant that we knew exactly what their guests would be having for breakfast – at 6:00am every morning. Not to mention the kitchen noises, of course, which accompanied the smell. But even this could be seen in a positive light since the deplorable custom of reserving the sun beds by placing towels on them had spread among the guests. Through the noisy neighbour kitchen we were able to rise early enough to be able to get hold of a couple of chairs ourselves. I strongly suspect that various guests alternated in spending the night on the beach so that they could confiscate the sun beds immediately after they had been set up.A sun shade serving its intended purpose could also only be had in exchange for appropriate baksheesh. The standard sun shades seemed suited to accommodate the desire of many guests for a quick tan, as they were so threadbare as to let through enough sunshine for a proper sunburn.Regarding the pool: I remembered it as not being very large but tolerable and equipped with a whirlpool and this is what I intended to make use of. Unfortunately, the equipment was out of order. By coincidence we met the new manager who had changed since our last visit and asked him about this. He explained that the motor of the whirlpool had been stolen by a staff member. Picture the situation: A man spends half a day or even a whole day by unscrewing the motor from its fitting, and then carries it placidly through the entire hotel compound to his own home where he might then use it as a means of air-conditioning for his canary bird. The whole thing is wonderingly observed by the guests and the other staff members who ultimately do not prevent it from happening – the bird does need some air after all. This statement fitted very well into the overall picture of this man who could only be encountered by coincidence and considerable good luck as he otherwise only existed on paper especially when a grievance had to be addressed. The pool was still suited for swimming, however, only provided that you managed to get into it since the stairs were regular death traps and the only means of getting into the pool was slipping or jumping in from the pool edge. Mountaineering experience was clearly an advantage. Now a few words on the topic of breakfast and the restaurant. The breakfast consisted of exactly the same foods every day (for four weeks!!!). The lunch and dinner were good, provided that you were prepared to accept that the same standard of cleanliness pervaded in the restaurant as it did in the whole resort. Which means dirty table cloths (by simply turning them around you save a lot of money on washing powder and water), parts of the restaurant were being used as storage and there must have been a small fire in the restaurant at some point whose traces had never been removed. Irrespective of the quality of the food the ambience spoilt one’s appetite. In addition, the restaurant closed at 10:00pm every night regardless of any guests still present. The whole thing closely resembled an eviction.Back to the bungalow: We had a visitor (probably a scout), 4-5cm long, long antennae, in short: a cockroach. Experience shows that a scout is usually followed by the whole tribe. We once spent a holiday in a cockroach-infested hotel and do not wish to repeat the experience. The high point of the whole was the external shower; there was such an accumulation of green slime, due to the non-existent cleaning, that my husband slipped and fell on this at the beginning of the 2nd week, thus injuring his tailbone and other precious parts, which are particularly important during a holiday. The bruises can still be seen today. Because of this he had a very relaxed holiday as he was forced to mostly spend it in the deck chair. The slime was not immediately visible as it was covered by a thin layer of sand. This was another death trap disguising as a beach shower. Two days before our departure the shower was finally cleaned. Taking this as a kind of cycle, it would be the same as taking your bath: Always on the first Saturday of the month .The beach was also cleaned one single time during our stay, which gives some support to my theory of a monthly cycle. Another adventurous thing was the stair leading to the beach. A step was simply missing and had been substituted by sandbags. Now, sandbags are not made of cement or concrete, which means that, at the latest, 10 people having stepped on them they would get out of place and the last step would have a depth of 40-50 cm!! This condition was repeatedly corrected by the guests (!!); the staff studiously ignored the problem.Speaking of staff: During our one encounter with the otherwise ‚ghostly‘ manager he mentioned having replaced the entire staff as the old ‘team’ had cheated him and stolen from him. We had met and become fond of these people during our previous holiday in the resort as they had looked after the guests in a truly touching manner. Our impression was that the whole thing had to be seen under a financial aspect. This would also explain the entirely non-existent motivation of the current staff. In summary it can be said that the complete resort was derelict, the weeds had overgrown the once beautiful flowers and the future prospects can only be seen as very negative. I took photographs of some of these recordings and will post them on Facebook and Holiday Check.I hope that everyone will reconsider before booking this hotel. I love this country and will also travel to Thailand again but never again will I book this hotel!!! [R24 integr.ERR:escaping]"

Reservation We are very pleased with Sawadee.com. Good turist information in a private meeting on place and nice staff from Sawadee.

Skandinaviske turister ønsker å spise is i varmen. Rummana hadde særdeles god mat, men noe dyr. Konklusjon:Hotellet her en perfekt beliggenhet, men dessverre drives hotellet dårlig. [R24 integr.ERR:escaping]"

"The hotel is very good (see below). But i want to complain about the Hotel Manager who was behaving towards some of the guests very rudely in the reception area. Besides, he was never seen visiting the guests areas (dinning room, beach, swimmimg pool) and asking the guests how they feel, if every thing is OK - It is very common in Resort Hotels that the GM is involved with the guests, verifing their needs and their satisfaction. [R24 integr.ERR:escaping]"
